We had a VERY busy and super fun weekend, y'all!
Saturday, we ran boring errands in the morning, but after a nice nap, we went hiking. Bennett wanted to hike up a hill, by the water AND in the woods. Thank goodness we live right by the Niagara River! We went to Beaver Island State Park and hiked along the wetlands. There were a couple of small hills and lots of foresty trees. An added bonus was the golf ball that we found on the trail!
As we were walking, we stopped to admire trees and roots and some flowers. At one point, Bennett looked up at me and said, "Mama. I used to live in that big tree over dere. You see how big it is? Yeah." "Oh yeah?" I replied, "When did you live in that tree?" Matter of factly, he responded, "When I was a pig. Oink!" I can not make this stuff up.
Today, again we ran errands in the morning, had a nice lunch and a good nap and then we walked to the school park in our neighborhood. When we got there, there were some bigger kids up to no good - they were tying a scooter to the rafters of a shelter with a padlock. We tried to distract Bennett with the piles of wood chips that had recently been delivered for spreading. We ran several laps around the playground climbing up and down the four piles as we came to them. Wore that baby out!
Then, some smaller neighborhood kids came to play and as we were sitting on the swings with them, they invited Bennett to play with them. Beaming a face-splitting grin, he ran off to join them in a rousing game of Hot Lava. They even convinced Brian to play and I'm really not sure who had more fun!
I'm counting on all the activity to induce coma-like sleep tonight. I don't want to wake up before 6am tomorrow, my first day with no office work. Yipee!
