Lots of gems today!
We had two visitors today/tonight. First, Dr. Alex Meredith, Brian's post-doc supervisor at Virginia Commonwealth University stopped in while on his way to University of Western Ontario in London, ON. He's headed up to do some work with a collaborator. I haven't seen him since we left Richmond so long ago - great to catch up.
We've been calling him "Dr. Alex" in front of Bennett. At one point, Brian and Dr. Alex were out on a walk around the block and Bennett and I had come inside. Bennett asked me where Dr. Alice was and I tried to enunciate very clearly the /x/ at the end of Dr. Alex. And Bennett says, "No, I just call him Dr. Alice's Restaurant". Deadpan.
Later, my mom showed up for her next two week visit (yay!) and Bennett went running up to her as she got out of the car - "You bring Daddyo wiff you dis time? Yes?" and then, "ahhhhh" when she said that he'd had to stay behind. It was almost as if he was disappointed to see her! Certainly not. But he has asked after Daddyo multiple times tonight.
And funniest of all - earlier in the day, Bennett and I went out to stomp in some puddles left after a flash storm. As we were coming back in the house to dry off, he grabbed his chest and moaned, "I burp." I replied, "Oh no - what do you say after you burp, love?" His reply, "I burp. I okay. I rub my belly." It's so much funnier when I say it! But the laughs were long and joyful after he reported the status of his belly.
Loving the way his language is just exploding lately.

Climber
It's barely 8 am and someone has found a perch in a tree. I think we'll need to join a climbing gym.

A little sun time
Bennett has been very busy this weekend at Oma's and Grandpa's.
He likes helping with the yard chores.

Timmy
One of Bennett's friends had to take a bath this weekend. Luckily, the sun was so bright he got to dry in the back yard!

Unplugged but tuned in
This is how Bennett and I spent the afternoon. Sitting in the back of our station wagon watching the man across the street mow his lawn. Delightful.

Today's adventures
This morning, we went to Lockport. There we saw the most incredible engineering feat of its time, the "Flight of Five" locks that raise and lower the Erie Canal allowing large boats to travel up river an elevation that changes 565 feet. Absolutely amazing! We also wandered through a tunnel that was made at the same time to provide hydro power to at least two factories by the canal.
Then we had lunch at a great little diner in town. After that, we stopped by the Lake Effect ice cream scoop shop to pick up a couple pints of creamy goodness. Bennett slept the whole way home and we left him snoozing in the car when we got home. We had a great time chatting on the front lawn waiting for him to wake.
For dinner tonight, we tried out a new to us place in Williamsville called The Eagle House. Delicious! But before and after our meal we spent some time at Island Park. Everyone had fun!!
